We are constantly amazed by the number of enquiries we receive by home owners for multi spilt air conditioners. This is a system where a number of heads (indoor parts) are able to be installed and then all connected to one outdoor unit. These units are great in apartments with limited spots for the outdoor units, homes with flat roofs so ducting can not be installed, or the home owner does not want multiple outdoor units surrounding the homes. Unfortunately the cost of the systems and installing a full system is slightly higher than a single stand alone split, but the end look is worth it. The outdoor unit is built “cleaver” in that it knows what heads you are using, what size they are (kW) so it can calculate what power it needs to run at. For instance if you have 2 x 2.5kW and a 5kW head installed and a 10kW outdoor unit, you can run all three heads at one time. Been an inverter technology, the outdoor will operate at the 10kW but “ramp” down as the indoor heads report back that the set point temperature in each room is been achieved. This saves operating costs. The system is then also cleaver enough to know that you are only operating only one of the 2.5kW heads and so will only work at the 2.5kW capacity again saving you operating costs.
