Why are Rinnai’s frost tolerant panels filled with water rather than glycol?

For frost prone areas, most manufacturers produce panels where the risers are filled with anti-freeze (glycol) rather than water to stop the panels freezing during winter. These systems are more expensive and have a shorter life span than water filled panels.

Rinnai’s FTC panels have a spare half-size riser containing a spring which compresses in cold conditions, when the water expands. This is a cheaper more effective solution than using glcol to frost proof your solar panels.

There are minimal parts that could need replacing and it is kinder to the environment when disposing of the system at the end of its useful life.
