DIY Wood Store

Wood burning fires are an amazing addition to any home. Depending on the style they can add a contemporary warmth or a classic coziness to the room. Wood fire heaters are also a great way to heat your home, and can be very energy efficient if you choose the right model for the space. If you’re going to have a beautiful wood burning fire in your home, you’re going to want an equally charming place to store your wood. Here’s a simple do it yourself project to make a wood store.

You need 2 pallets and some 4×2

Use the wood to make the frame for the sides and roof

Add a third frame to join the pallets

Join the frames and brace the ends to make it stable

Brace the roof

Wooden roof added

With just a drill, screws, a mitre, two pallets and some wood you can make a wood store to keep your wood dry. Keeping wood stored correctly is ones of the tips in our blog “Getting the Most out of Your Wood Fire”.

You need to have air circulating around the wood being stored so a couple of pallets make a good base.

Instead of wood shown here, you can use roof sheeting to make a weather proof roof. Allow an overhang and angle the sheeting 10 degrees to allow rain to run off. You can fix weather proof boards to the side of your store, with 1cm gaps to allow adequate circulation.

Thanks to Jeff for sending me these photos of the store he made.
