- There are a number of types of split system:
- Splits - A single unit installed through the wall. Ideally the indoor unit should be located on an external wall. The compressor (motor) is located outside
- Multiple-Splits - These systems have one outdoor unit whilst allowing two or more indoor heads so that up to nine rooms can be treated at one time. This is suitable where there is limited space for outdoor units or where you don't have the ceiling space or penetrations to allow you to have a ducted reverse cycle system.
- VRV Systems - These units are like multiple-splits but allow for a number of ducted, wall splits, cassette bulk head, under ceiling or floor splits to be run off one outdoor unit. These are far more technically advanced systems and require specialist installers to carry out the work
- Cassettes - These too are a two part system. The indoor unit is fitted into the ceiling and again the motor is located outside. The advantage of these units is that no wall space is taken up and if no external wall is available, you can still have an air conditioner
- Cassettes are generally more efficient as they are located centrally in a room
- A split can be supplied and installed from $1,150 within the Perth metro area and range up to $5,500.
- Operating cost of 10 cents per horse power per hour
- 5 years parts and labour warranty for leading brands. Budget brands may have a 2 year warranty.
