Air Con Tips
Thermostats should be set between 25–27°C. Every 1°C lower can increase running costs by up to 15% or cost you for repairs because they do like a break every so often.
If there is a hot day forecast, then pre-cool your house the night before. This is especially effective if your house has a high thermal mass such as solid brick. This will allow your air conditioner to work at its optimum during the cool evening, saving power and wear and tear on the unit. It also allows the unit to keep on top of the heat load as it begins to warm up during the heat of the day.

Ducted Evaporative Air Conditioners

Ducted Reverse Cycle Air Conditioners
The most important thing with ducted refrigerated air conditioning is to clean the filter on the return air grille at least every two months. If the filter gets clogged up with dirt and dust it will cut effciency up to 50%, increase noise and increase operating costs as the air conditioner has to work harder to achieve the air flow.
Cleaning the filter is simple - turn the unit off, flip the return air grille down, remove the filter and give it a vacuum.
We are also able to install an Advantage Air Purtec alarm return air grille. This component will flash a red light to advise when the filter is dirty and requires cleaning.
Outdoor Unit
Regularly inspect the outdoor unit to ensure the heat exchanger and fan outlet are not obstructed (eg by leaves). At least annually clean the outdoor unit and check for signs of corrosion.
Split System / Cassette Air Conditioners
The most important thing with splits and cassette air conditioners is to clean the filter on the unit at least every two months. If the filter gets clogged up with dirt and dust it will cut effciency up to 50%, increase noise and increase operating costs as the air conditioner has to work harder to achieve the air flow.
Cleaning the filter is simple - turn the unit off at the main switch, flip the fascia on the indoor unit down, remove the filter and give it a vacuum.
Do not clean the indoor unit with water as there is a risk of electric shock. You can use a damp cloth and neutral detergent to clean the air outlet grille.
Outdoor Unit
Regularly inspect the outdoor unit to ensure the heat exchanger and fan outlet are not obstructed (eg by leaves). At least annually clean the outdoor unit and check for signs of corrosion.
