Excessive Energy Usage and Temperatures

Compressor runs excessively but cannot bring the room to a comfortable temperature (i.e. too hot in summer or too cold in winter).

 Possible Reasons

 Recommended Action

Thermostat set too high or low Check the thermostat temperature
Outdor temperature is hotter in summer than the temperature the air conditioner can operate at Your air conditioner is not designed to work at this temperature and cannot cool effectively. Refer to your air conditioning manual for operating temperature range. West Australia's highest summer temperatures may mean that your unit does reach its maximum effective temperature.
Air conditioner under sized Refer to the heat load survey received at quotation.  If you do not have a survey refer to the retailer who sold you your unit.
Leaves or other items blocking the coil of the outdoor unit Clear the obstruction
Leaks in ductwork Inspect ductwork (particularly at inlet and outlet of air conditioner) with the fan running for evidence of leakage
Airflow to outdoor unit is too restricted eg outdoor unit is located in a very narrow passage at the side of the house Refer to the retailer who sold you your unit
Indoor fan continuing to run in winter when compressor is off Read manual to see if the fan can be turned off
Indoor fan shutting off in summer when compressor is on Read manual to see if control can be changed to set fan to continuous
Internal fault in the air conditioner Arrange a service and refer to the Warranty section
